Unimog implement carrier

Open to challenges

With the Unimog implement carrier, you get a unique vehicle that allows you to use different implements and bodies flexibly. Not only can you change them quickly and easily according to your needs, but you can also travel safely and efficiently all year round – whether it’s hot, snowy or rainy.

Highlights

One system. With vehicle.

With the Unimog, you don’t just get a vehicle, you get a powerful system. This allows you to professionally use different implements and bodies in your industry – 365 days a year. More than 75 years ago, the so-called universal engine unit was designed precisely for this purpose and has been consistently further developed since then. You benefit from decades of partnerships with qualified implement and body manufacturers who use their special know-how to ensure that the Unimog effectively meets your requirements in practice.

Attachments and implements can be incredibly flexibly and rapidly installed and uninstalled on the Unimog implement carrier, as it offers you up to 4 attachment points and a variety of standardised mechanical, hydraulic and electrical interfaces.

A blue Unimog implement carrier drives under a bridge on a motorway. It is transporting an excavator.

Because you can use your Unimog implement carrier with such versatility, you can drive fuel efficiently and achieve a high level of utilisation. Thanks to long maintenance intervals of around 1,400 operating hours, your costs remain low.1

Four Unimog implement carriers in different colours and with different applications stand next to each other on a wide paved road: winter service, road cleaning, agricultural and transport operations. Green meadows and mountains, a snow-covered mountain and a motorway bridge can be seen in the background.

The Unimog implement carrier offers so many options for use that you can take it out on the road every day of the year.

A graphic with a top view of three vehicles driving in a circle: truck, Unimog and car. The Unimog’s significantly smaller turning circle than that of a truck is illustrated.

With its all-wheel steering, the Unimog implement carrier allows you to manoeuvre in the tightest of spaces.

Compactness

Short and agile.

Compact, more compact, most compact: various Unimog models offer you very good features for your requirements. The short front end, low overall height and narrow width allow you to be extremely productive almost anywhere. For example, if you need to get through narrow alleys or manoeuvre in the tightest of spaces, you can unleash the power of the Unimog implement carrier with its dimensions, small turning circle from 12.6 m and 2,800 mm wheelbase in the entry-level model at almost any angle.

Compactness

All-wheel steering

Turn all wheels.

With the optional all-wheel steering, you can also master tight bends easily and virtually without reversing. Compared to standard steering, this reduces your turning circle by roughly an additional 20 percent. If you have to manoeuvre a lot or, for example, clear snow, the so-called crab steering makes the work easier, as you can align the wheels diagonally in the same direction. If you want to manoeuvre in reverse gear, simply switch to rear-axle steering and you’ll be even more agile on the road.

Vehicle technology

Innovative system, efficient technology.

Your Unimog supports you in your work with a host of innovations. The synergetic EasyDrive drive system or the hydropneumatic suspension on the rear axle make the Unimog efficient, comfortable and safe.

Vehicle technology

  • Transfer case with permanent all-wheel drive
  • EPS gearshift with 8 forward and 6 reverse gears
  • Can be extended by 6 or 16 gears with crawler, working and off-road gear groups
  • Reversing gear for fast direction changes
  • EasyDrive combines hydrostatic and mechanical drive in a practical way
  • AutomaticShift takes the strain off the user with its automated clutch and gearshift operations
3D diagram of the Unimog transmission ratios. It shows the gears, divided into working and basic gears, as well as the speeds in km/h for forward and reverse travel. Graduated bars visualise the gradation of the individual gears.

2 drive programmes make work easier for the driver: in automatic mode “A”, the drive programme – depending on the load condition, accelerator pedal position, engine operation, uphill/downhill gradient and engine brake – takes over the shifting and clutch operation completely. If necessary, the driver can initiate a manual gear change via the multifunction lever.

Full control is provided by the “M” (manual) drive programme. Here, gear selection is also carried out via the multifunction lever. The driver determines the gear and the clutch is engaged automatically.

AutomaticShift (EAS) with 2-pedal operation (accelerator/brake) is available as an option. The improved gearshift tuning results in noticeably shorter shift interruptions and reduced clutch wear. The driver's workload is reduced, especially during gearshift-intensive vehicle operations, and he can concentrate better on his task and the traffic.

In the Unimog implement carrier, the permanent all-wheel drive moves you through your everyday life. With up to 3 differential locks and the link-guided portal axles, you have traction and grip and also high ground clearance.

View of a Unimog implement carrier in X-ray optics. All-wheel drive and axles are coloured blue.

Whether you’re driving on the road, sand or rough terrain, you can adjust the tyre pressure to suit the surface. With three pre-configured modes —“Road,” “Sand” and “Rough Terrain” — you intuitively select the correct setting. Even nature benefits from TireControl plus: Driving off-road with lowered tyre pressure improves traction while also protecting the ground surface.

Detailed view of two tyres. You can see the respective tyre imprint in the sand. The comparison shows the effect and improved traction of the correct tyre pressure.

The frame level of your Unimog is kept in the same position thanks to the hydropneumatic suspension on the rear axle with the travel sensors. The suspension system works in conjunction with hydraulic components. Gas is compressed or decompressed by a change in oil volume, resulting in an elastic effect. In combination with hydraulic cylinders, spring mechanisms, hydraulic valves, sensors and the control unit, the vehicle suspension fulfils various functions.

EasyDrive – the innovative drive system

Do you want to get ahead with your Unimog and use your implements efficiently at the same time? The EasyDrive synergetic drive system helps you with this. It combines the advantages of a fuel-saving manual transmission with a stepless hydrostatic drive. When moving between deployment sites or manoeuvring, you can switch spontaneously between stepless and mechanical drive. All of this increases efficiency and takes the strain off, as it means that you can concentrate even better on your work.

The hydrostatic drive supports you when working at low speeds, such as mowing or trenching.1

An orange Unimog implement carrier clears a road of snow in a snow-covered mountainous area.

In Work mode, you can select the driving speed and working speed independently of the engine speed. The engine speed remains constant. This can be useful if you want to set the driving speed and working speed separately, for example when working with a snow blower.

A green Unimog implement carrier in agricultural operation drives over a field.

With the hydrostatic drive system you can drive steplessly from 0 to 50 km/h by pressing the accelerator pedal. The driving speed is proportional to the engine speed.

Efficient drivetrain

In the Unimog, the fully synchronised electropneumatic manual transmission with 8 forward and 6 reverse gears translates the engine power into propulsion. It can be optionally expanded by 8 or 16 gears. Characteristics include smooth running, a long service life and a high degree of efficiency. And the synchronised Electronic Quick Reverse turning group makes it easier to change direction quickly, for example when clearing or manoeuvring, and is optionally available with a forward/reverse switch integrated into the multifunction operating lever.

1 All manufacturers listed in the Unimog Partner Portal meet Mercedes‑Benz quality standards in the areas of technology, quality, service and sales. You are therefore certified as a “UnimogPartner by Mercedes‑Benz” or a “Mercedes‑Benz Unimog ExpertPartner”. Unimog users can therefore rely on the new portal to provide them with optimum vehicle/implement combinations.

Implement drive

Always ready for action.

Mechanical, hydraulic and electric drives, as well as interfaces, open up numerous possibilities for using different implements and bodies at any time. Mercedes‑Benz Trucks has been cooperating with international equipment and body manufacturers for decades. The standardised attachment points make it easy to attach bodies and change implements.

Implement drive

Mechanical implement drive: proven top performance

Full steam ahead: The mechanical implement drive delivers the right result for many tasks in applications with high power requirements. Whether with a front PTO shaft with a continuous output of 160 kW or optional engine and transmission power take-off on board: you have several options for getting mechanical support for the Unimog as special equipment.

Close-up of the front of the Unimog implement carrier in white with large, visible star.
Close-up of an electrical connection. The connector is attached to a black metal frame and has a small, folded-up cover.

Electrical interface: plug and work.

With 4 standardised plug connections in the cab and on the outside, you save on cabling and can still operate electrical devices or drive attachments. You get the power from an on-board three-phase alternator with 28 V/150 A. You can easily make important settings via the parameterisable on-board electronics, such as the engine speed limit to protect mechanically driven implements, the immobiliser when the support legs are extended, or the speed limit.

4-cell work hydraulics

The 4-cell work hydraulics of the implement carrier consist of up to 2 circuits. In the combined equipment circuits I and II (32 plus 55 l/min), you can mobilise 35 kW with up to 240 bar. Another highlight is the load-sensing hydraulic system. With an oil flow rate of up to 110 l/min and a pressure of 240 bar, it continuously adapts the pump pressure or volumetric flow rate to your requirements and is therefore particularly high performing and fuel-saving.

With up to 30 l of oil available from the fully proportional work hydraulics, larger trailer tilt cylinders can also be filled. Circuit I controls up to 8 implement positioning movements with 210 bar system pressure (32 l/min) via 4 double-acting valves or drives hydraulic motors in the lower power range.

VarioPower® power hydraulics

2 circuits, both with 125 l hydraulic oil flow per minute and 280 bar pressure: with the power hydraulics of your Unimog, you don’t have to give up on any job, no matter how difficult. Whether you are carrying out several operations at the same time or a task requires high power – the VarioPower® power hydraulics make even more possible. The two open circuits III and IV have the same high output of 125 l hydraulic oil flow, a system pressure of 280 bar and a maximum output of 58 kW.

The power hydraulics thus replace plug-on pumps on the power take-off shaft or diesel body engines. You can easily control the VarioPower® using the steering wheel buttons on the multifunction steering wheel. The settings are displayed in the instrument cluster. The power hydraulics are mounted in the platform intermediate frame so that you can remove them from the platform frame – for example to increase the payload in winter service operations.
