Arrive safely – with the support of innovative assistance systems to improve driving safety which actively relieve the strain on the driver and treat the vehicle and the load with sufficient care, thereby contributing to higher efficiency. On every journey.
Safety is at the root of our DNA.
Trucks that are safer are a major step forward for all road users. They are also more efficient. because they are less often put out of action by accidents and they relieve the driver's workload. This is why we have been focusing for over 45 years now on developing innovative assistance systems.

MirrorCam271.
Instead of using conventional mirrors, the new Actros can be equipped with the innovative, aerodynamically designed MirrorCam. Besides cutting fuel consumption by up to 1.3%, it provides an ideal view rearward and around the area of the A pillar. In addition, the MirrorCam improves safety, for example by automatically panning the camera image when manoeuvring, turning corners or changing lanes.
The camera system comprises two high-resolution fold-up cameras that are mounted on the upper roof frame. The camera images are sent to two 15.2" (38.6 cm) colour screens near the A pillar. To aid the driver in assessing the traffic behind him/her, the respective screen shows tracking and distance indicator lines as soon as he/she switches on the indicator at a speed greater than 30 kilometres per hour. Warnings alerting the driver to excessively tight turning angles add yet more assistance during manoeuvring.
Traffic Sign Assist.
The new assistance system aids the driver in recognising certain traffic signs in real-time, displays up to two of them in the instrument cluster simultaneously and thus makes for greater safety and driving comfort. What's more, it warns the driver both visually and audibly – for example in the case of exceeding speed limits.
Besides speed limits, overtaking restrictions and their lifting, Traffic Sign Assist also detects warning signs and restricted access signs applicable to trucks.
Active Brake Assist 591, 200.
The fifth generation of the system assists the driver in that, under ideal conditions and within the system's capabilities, it can perform emergency braking when approaching stationary and moving objects, and perform partial or full braking for moving pedestrians, thus mitigating or even preventing accidents entirely.

Further assistance systems.
Trailer Stability Assist91, 245, 246.
The system increases driving safety by stabilising and preventively braking the vehicle and trailer/semitrailer in possibly critical driving situations.
The assistance system actively stabilises the truck by braking the trailer/semitrailer when the accelerator pedal is released on bends at speeds up to 60 km/h. The action of engine brake is then also taken into account.
Camera integration.
This optional ex factory pre-installation enables the swift and simple installation of up to four analogue cameras. For improved safety – for example during manoeuvring.
Parking brake, electronic91.
It is automatically activated when the engine is turned off – but can also be turned on and off by operating the lever in the cockpit. The integrated HOLD function is activated when the vehicle is at a standstill simply by pressing the brake pedal more firmly, for example at a red traffic light or on an uphill gradient. The function is released once the accelerator pedal is operated again. This avoids the danger of the vehicle rolling back when moving off on an uphill gradient.
Sideguard Assist91, 272, 209, 210, 263, 264, 265, 266.
This optionally available system can assist the driver during cornering or lane-changing by detecting moving and stationary objects in the warning zone on the right or in the tracking pattern in certain situations201, 211 and providing visual and audible warnings for the driver.
Automatic high/low beam and cornering light91, 243.
This optional new headlamp system contributes to enhanced safety through improved illumination of the carriageway. Besides the LED daytime running lights, it also includes automatic switching between dipped beam and main beam, as well as an automatic cornering light and foglamps.
When cornering, depending on the steering angle and speed, the foglamp on the inside of the bend is automatically activated in order to better illuminate the bend. Automatic activation and deactivation of high beam additionally enhances driving comfort and driving safety.
LED tail lamps.
The new LED tail lamps set clear standards. Especially the turn signals, whereby the light signal starts on the inside and moves in an outward direction.
The robustness and long service life of the LEDs help ensure greater safety as well as lower maintenance and repair costs.
Besides turn signal lamps, brake lamps and tail lamps, this equipment also features rear position lights and licence plate lamps, rear foglamp, as well as perimeter/side-marker lamps.
