Hey RoadStars, we hope you’ve all had a good start to the new year.
We are currently in Cordoba, Argentina, and would like to look back on our adventures from last year.
To the end of the Carretera Austral
Our year started in Bariloche, Argentina, on our way to the south. Although we have already travelled part of the Carretera Austral, the region caught our imagination once again. We went hiking on active volcanoes and watched dolphins and sea lions on the coast. We drove all the way to the end of the legendary road to a small village called O’Higgins. From there, we could only continue by ferry, winding for two days through the Chilean fjords. An unforgettable experience.

At the end of the world
In Punta Arenas, we replenished our supplies to travel to Tierra del Fuego – but this time on the Chilean side. We spent over a week in this remote wilderness far from civilisation, as autumn showed its most beautiful side. On our way back from the end of the world, we were accompanied by a surprising snowfall. A perfect end to this leg of the journey.

A snowstorm and a break-in
In the Argentinian province of Chubut, we were unable to continue driving for a few days due to a severe snowstorm. But we had barely changed province, when the snow disappeared and a blue sky greeted us. Unfortunately, our good mood was dimmed by an attempted break-in on our Axor. The repairs took over a week, but thanks to the great support of Mercedes-Benz dealer Taraborelli, we were able to get everything back in good working order.
Onwards!
We continued our journey northwards with renewed momentum until we once again came across the Ruta 40, which led us through a desert-like landscape.
What do you think? Which corners of South America we will explore in 2025? Let us know in the comments!
4-Extremes – The World Tour.
Since June 2020, Andrea and Mike Kammermann have been on the road in their Expedition‑Axor. From the northernmost point of Norway to the Canary Islands, the Swiss couple has visited large parts of Europe and even made a detour to Tunisia. Distance covered on the road: 83,000 kilometres!
Especially due to pandemic-related restrictions, further destinations were unreachable — until now: From now on, Andrea and Mike are discovering South America. Stay tuned to see what happens next! The current tour is the second one that the Swiss couple has embarked on in their Axor. In 2018 and 2019, they travelled to more than 20 countries and covered a good 47,000 kilometres.
