Hey RoadStars, today we are taking you on our trip to the north of Argentina!
First we leave Patagonia and drive through the province of La Pampa, where endless agricultural land shapes the landscape. Nevertheless, there are also a few beautiful tourist gems to discover here, such as Lihue Calel National Park, where we hike over the mountain plateaux and encounter 1,300-year-old rock paintings. Or the Parque Luro, the country’s first organised hunting grounds. Deer and other animals were imported from Europe in 1909 for the purpose of hunting and though they still live in the park today, they are now protected.
Raclette in the mountains
We camp in charming small villages and discover many cosy, traditional shops. It feels like time has stood still. We also get a tip to visit the highest point in the Córdoba province. On the 2,790-metre-high Cerro Champaqui, we enjoy a raclette with an impressive view of the surroundings. After a short detour to the city to stock up, we visit a Jesuit estancia founded in 1618, just north of Córdoba.

A steep downhill
As we never do anything special for our anniversary, we spontaneously spend it in the small town of Catamarca. We camp up in the city park, walk into the city centre and pick a great restaurant at random – a very lovely day! Then we continue on small gravel roads through the Cordillera, where an exciting descent awaits us – because over the next 15 km, the Cuesta de la Chilca road winds down the steep mountainside. The road is just wide enough for our Axor and we are happy that we only encounter a few cars on the narrow road. At the foot of the Cordillera the climate is completely different, as we have now officially entered the dry north of Argentina. It almost feels like we’ve arrived in a new country!

4-Extremes – The World Tour.
Since June 2020, Andrea and Mike Kammermann have been on the road in their Expedition‑Axor. From the northernmost point of Norway to the Canary Islands, the Swiss couple has visited large parts of Europe and even made a detour to Tunisia. Distance covered on the road: 83,000 kilometres!
Especially due to pandemic-related restrictions, further destinations were unreachable — until now: From now on, Andrea and Mike are discovering South America. Stay tuned to see what happens next! The current tour is the second one that the Swiss couple has embarked on in their Axor. In 2018 and 2019, they travelled to more than 20 countries and covered a good 47,000 kilometres.
