The Predictive Powertrain Control system which now comes as standard provides a simple means of saving even more fuel with the Arocs. On motorways, country roads and city streets alike.
The easy road to better driving – with Predictive Powertrain Control.
The system, now fitted as standard, integrates an additional mode into the automatic transmission system that adapts to the topography of the road ahead, enabling fuel savings of up to 5 % in conjunction with the precisely matched driving strategy. The new extended functions of Predictive Powertrain Control now enable use of the system's benefits on A and B roads, too. In addition to the satellite-based positioning system and precise 3D maps, Predictive Powertrain Control also uses the Traffic Sign Assist feature.
Advantages at a glance.
- Predictive Powertrain Control91: Reduced fuel consumption
- Identification of the course of the road, such as uphill and downhill gradients, junctions and roundabouts
- Optimisation of shift points, gear selection and the cruise-control speed setting
- Optimum use of the system using traffic-dependent setting and Traffic Sign Assist
- Now usable not only on motorways, but on A and B roads as well
Automated anticipatory driving.
On a steep hill, ahead of a hilltop, coasting down a hill, in dips or on the flat – Predictive Powertrain Control recognises impending driving situations in good time and takes anticipatory action. To this end, Predictive Powertrain Control continually monitors the vehicle's kinetic energy and uses it ahead of hilltops or on the flat for EcoRoll phases. This reduces engine drag losses and saves fuel. The system also adapts shift sequences to the impending driving situation, applying less gear changes and larger gear steps. This also helps to reduce fuel consumption.
Driving programs.
Economy driving program.
The Economy drive program's intelligent functions tailor its design specifically to fuel-efficient operation on long-distance journeys. Depending on the situation, drivers can choose between the driving modes A (standard), Economy, Economy+ and Manual. Economy drive program is tailored to a vehicle weight of up to 44 t.
Slow-moving urban traffic or motorway: The driving modes deliver ideal performance for the respective requirements when it comes to pulling away, dynamism when pulling away under high load, shift points and shift dynamics. After switching on the ignition, the vehicle always starts in the economy+ driving mode. For the driving modes A, Aeconomy and Aeconomy+, in addition to the upper hysteresis for using potential on descents, an overshoot of 1 km/h is set which can be extended to max. 4 km/h (legal requirements must always be observed in the process).
Power driving program.
This driving mode is specially designed for heavy-duty short-radius distribution, but also for gross vehicle weights of up to 120 tons. The driving modes Standard, Economy, Power and Manual allow a driving style that is both economical and dynamic.
The driving modes offer outstanding pulling-away characteristics, not to mention dynamism during difficult starts, as well as shift point selection and dynamic shifting to suit the given situation.
Fleet drive program.
The Fleet drive program is a fuel-saving variant of Mercedes PowerShift, developed specifically for fleet customers operating in long-distance haulage. The Fleet drive program features the driving modes economy and manual (in the lower gears dependent on speed, e.g. when driving on slippery road surfaces) and helps lower fuel consumption using an intelligent set of functions.
The driving modes yield outstanding results in start-up characteristics, dynamics in difficult starting-off, shift point selection and shifting dynamics in the given situation.
Off-road drive program.
The offroad drive program offers the driving modes A (standard), Aeconomy, Aoffroad and manual and is optimised for the special requirements of construction-site traffic. It supports economic driving styles just as much as improved handling when pulling away or manoeuvring on building sites or when driving slowly along bad roads.
Off-road or on country roads: The driving modes offer ideal performance in the respective situation in terms of pulling away, dynamism when pulling away under high load, gearshift points and shift dynamics. The Offroad drive program is also suitable for use with a turbo-retarder clutch.
Fire-service drive program.
Its smart functions make this drive program specially designed for fire brigade operations. The driver can choose between the driving modes A (Standard), Aeconomy, Afire and Manual. The extremely dynamic driving style can be changed to an especially economical one as needed.
It relieves the driver of routine tasks thanks to automatic clutch disengagement, shifting and clutch engagement. The drive program is permanently activated without a time limit as required.
Heavy drive program.
This drive program is designed for heavy-duty use with high gross vehicle weights greater than 120 tonnes. It features impressively short shift times and a precise gear selection adapted to the given situation.
The Heavy drive program supplements the existing driving modes A (Standard), Aeconomy and Manual. The driver can optimise the driving behaviour – irrespective of the gross combination weight – by activating and deactivating the program. In doing so, the best possible results in terms of shift point selection and shifting dynamics are also achieved in the respective situation.
