Arriving safely – with the help of innovative assistance systems to improve driving safety, such as the standard Active Brake Assist 5285, drivers are actively relieved, the vehicle and the load are treated with sufficient care and efficiency is increased. On every journey.
Safety is at the root of our DNA.
Trucks that are very safe are not just an important development for all road users. They are also more efficient, because they are less often put out of action by accidents and they relieve the driver's workload. This is why we have been focusing for over 45 years now on developing innovative assistance systems.

MirrorCam271.
The new Actros is equipped with the innovative, aerodynamically designed MirrorCam. Besides cutting fuel consumption by up to 1.3%, it provides an ideal view rearward and around the area of the A pillar. In addition, the MirrorCam ensures even greater safety by digitally shifting the camera image when manoeuvring, turning off and changing lanes.
The camera system comprises two high-resolution folding digital cameras that are mounted on the upper roof frame. The camera images are sent to two 15.2" (38.6 cm) colour screens near the A pillar. To aid the driver in assessing the traffic behind him/her, the respective screen shows tracking and distance indicator lines as soon as he/she switches on the indicator at a speed greater than 30 kilometres per hour.
Traffic Sign Assist.
The new assistance system aids the driver in recognising certain traffic signs in real-time, displays up to two of them in the instrument cluster simultaneously and thus makes for greater safety and driving comfort. Furthermore it informs the driver when, for example, the speed limit is exceeded.
Besides speed limits, overtaking restrictions and their lifting, Traffic Sign Assist also detects warning signs.
Active Brake Assist 591, 285.
The fifth generation of the system assists the driver in that, under ideal conditions and within the system's capabilities, it can perform emergency braking when approaching stationary and moving objects, and perform partial or full braking for moving pedestrians, thus mitigating or even preventing accidents entirely.
Further Assistance systems.
Trailer Stability Assist91, 245, 246.
The system increases driving safety by stabilising and preventively braking the vehicle and trailer/semitrailer moderately in possibly critical driving situations.
The assistance system stabilises the truck by actively braking the trailer/semitrailer in bends when the accelerator is released. The action of the engine brake is then also taken into account.
Camera integration.
This optional ex factory pre-installation enables the swift and simple installation of up to four analogue cameras. This provides added safety when manoeuvring.
Parking brake, electronic91.
It is automatically activated when the engine is turned off – but can also be turned on and off by operating the lever in the cockpit. To ensure an even greater level of safety, the electronic parking brake is also automatically activated in the event of the door being opened when the engine is running and the speed is 0 km/h. The integrated HOLD function is activated when the vehicle is at a standstill simply by pressing the brake pedal more firmly, for example at a red traffic light or on an uphill gradient. It is released as soon as the accelerator is pressed again. This avoids the danger of the vehicle rolling back when moving off on an uphill gradient.
Sideguard Assist91, 272, 209, 210, 263, 264, 265, 266.
This optionally available system can assist the driver during cornering or lane changing by detecting moving and stationary objects in the warning zone on the right or in the tracking pattern in certain situations201, 211 and providing visual and audible warnings for the driver.
Intelligent Light91.
This optional new headlamp system contributes to enhanced safety through improved illumination of the carriageway. In addition to the LED daytime running lamps, it also comprises automatic high/low beam, an automatic cornering light and a front fog lamp.
When turning off, the fog lamp on the inside of the bend is activated automatically according to the steering movement and vehicle speed, thereby illuminating the curve area more effectively. Automatic activation and deactivation of high beam additionally enhances driving comfort and driving safety.
LED tail lamps.
The optionally available LED tail lamps are available in three variants: Variant 1: From Gen 5, full LED tail light available for model series 963. The turn signal function is designed as a light signal which moves from the inner to the outer edge of the lamp. Variant 2: The same as variant 1, but without the turn signal moving to the outer edge of the lamp. Variant 3: Established partial LED tail light from Gen 4.
The great durability of the LEDs contributes to a higher degree of safety and results in lower maintenance and repair costs.
In countries where legal requirement UN-R 48.06 (L0A) does not apply, the turn signal is implemented without sequential flashing function.
