The optionally available Predictive Powertrain Control system provides a simple and automatic means of helping to save fuel with the Arocs. On highways, country roads and city streets alike.
The easy road to better driving – with Predictive Powertrain Control.
The Predictive Powertrain Control1 system integrates a driving style optimised for the route topography into the operation of the automatic transmission and, in conjunction with the precisely coordinated shift strategy, allows further fuel savings to be achieved. In addition to the course of the road with uphill and downhill gradients ahead, the system integrates into 3D maps. On the basis of this data, Predictive Powertrain Control1 optimises shift points, gear steps and the set cruise control speed.
What’s more: the vehicle’s kinetic energy is used to avoid unnecessary acceleration, shifting or braking. This means that cruise control can be used in nearly all driving situations. This assists the driver with his workload and contributes to a fuel-efficient driving style.
Predictive Powertrain Control1 can be used in conjunction with cruise control at speeds between 25 and 100 km/h.
Advantages at a glance.
- Let the truck achieve greater fuel savings for you
- Identification of the course of the road, such as uphill and downhill gradients, junctions and roundabouts
- Optimisation of shift points, gear selection and the cruise-control speed setting
- Used on both highways and roads
Automated anticipatory driving.
On a steep hill, ahead of a hilltop, coasting down a hill, in dips or on the flat – Predictive Powertrain Control1 recognises impending driving situations in real time and takes anticipatory action. To this end, Predictive Powertrain Control1 continually monitors the vehicle’s kinetic energy and uses it ahead of hilltops or on the flat for EcoRoll phases. This reduces engine drag losses and saves fuel.
The system also adapts shift sequences to the impending driving situation, applying fewer gear changes and larger gear steps. This also helps to reduce fuel consumption.
Driving programs.
Economy driving program.
The Economy drive program's intelligent functions tailor its design specifically to fuel-efficient operation on long-distance journeys. Depending on the situation, drivers can choose between the driving modes A (standard), Economy, Economy+ and Manual. Economy drive program is tailored to a vehicle weight of up to 44 t.
Slow-moving urban traffic or on a highway: the driving modes deliver ideal performance for the respective requirements when it comes to taking off, dynamism when pulling away under high load, shift points and shift dynamics. After switching on the ignition, the vehicle always starts in the Economy+ driving mode. For the driving modes A, Economy and Economy+, in addition to the upper hysteresis for using potential on descents, an overshoot of 1 km/h is set which can be extended to max. 4 km/h (legal requirements must always be observed in the process).
Power driving program.
This driving mode is specially designed for heavy-duty short-radius distribution, but also for gross vehicle weights of up to 120 t. The driving modes standard, economy, power and manual allow a driving style that is both economical and dynamic.
The driving modes offer optimum pulling-away characteristics, not to mention dynamism during difficult starts, as well as shift point selection and dynamic shifting to suit the given situation.
Fleet driving program.
The driving program with the driving modes Economy, Economy+ and Manual (through gear level 1-x only) helps to reduce fuel consumption through smart functions.
The driving modes yield optimum results in start-up characteristics, dynamics in difficult starting-off, shift point selection and shifting dynamics in the given situation.
Off-road drive mode.
Offroad drive mode offers the driving setups Standard, Economy, Offroad and Manual and is optimised for the special requirements of construction-site traffic. It supports economic driving styles just as much as improved handling when taking off or manoeuvring on building sites, or when driving slowly along unpaved roads.
Off-road or on country roads: the drive modes offer optimal performance in the respective situation in terms of taking off, dynamism when pulling away under high load, gearshift points and shift dynamics.
Fire-service driving program.
Its smart functions make this driving program specially designed for fire brigade operations. The driver can choose between the driving modes Standard, Economy, Fire and Manual. The impressive dynamic driving style can be changed to an economical one as needed.
The fire-service driving program extends the standard driving mode and relieves the driver of routines through automated clutch disengagement, shifting and clutch engagement. The driving program is permanently activated without a time limit as required.
Heavy driving program.
This driving program is designed for heavy-duty use with high gross vehicle weights greater than 120 t. It features short shift times and an optimal gear selection adapted to the given situation.
The driver can optimise the handling characteristics – irrespective of the gross combination weight – by cutting the program in and out or by activating the Standard, Economy and Manual modes, to obtain the ideal result in the given situation in terms of shift point selection and shifting dynamics.
